What is 'Hosting an image'

Hosting an image is nothing more than putting your image file - for example: myimage.jpg - somewhere on the internet.
If you need to show your image on a website or online forum, it needs to have a full address so websites can find it using its full address/location.
For example www.mywebsite.com/images/myimage.jpg.
If someone loads the webpage, the system will load the image from www.mywebsite.com/images/myimage.jpg.

Why host an image ?

Sometimes you need to be able to show other collectors an image or scan of some of your crowns. Very familiar reasons are for a trade or for identification.

Especially in forums it is a must to know where you can place your images on the web in order to show them in a forum post. Afterall, the image needs to stay somewhere if you want to show it on a website or forum.

Where can I put my image

There are a few options you have:

  • If you have your own homepage, you can upload your images there and use the link to your image
  • If you do not have your own homepage there are several free web services that allow you to host your image on their server. You can upload it and they will provide you with a link to the image that you can use on for example a forum post.
